Perplexity vs Buzzlytics for creator research (2026)

Perplexity finds what's published. Views gained over a payout window is never published.

Different haystacks

Perplexity is a search engine with a language model on top. It's genuinely good at "who are the biggest fitness creators on TikTok right now" or "what happened with that brand's campaign" — questions whose answers somebody has already written down.

Creator performance data is not written down. Nobody publishes an article about how many views @yourclipper gained between July 1 and July 31. That number exists only if something was watching the account on both of those days.

Where each one lands

"Is @creator's engagement rate healthy?"❌ Guesses from follower counts✅ Calculated from actual posts

"Alert me when this account posts a breakout"❌ Cannot watch✅ Threshold monitors
"What do I owe my clippers this month?"❌ Private program data✅ Payout report from stored history

The follower-count trap

Ask a web-search tool to vet an influencer and it will find the follower count, because that's the number that gets published. Follower count is the least useful signal in creator vetting — it's the easiest to buy and the slowest to reflect reality.

The signals that matter — median views versus average views, engagement relative to reach, whether performance is trending up or down over months — require having watched the account. That's a different kind of tool.

Use both, honestly

Perplexity for the landscape: who's out there, what's the context, what's the brand's story. Buzzlytics for the measurement: what these specific accounts actually did, tracked over time, with the receipts kept.

And if you want them in the same window, Buzzlytics ships an MCP server — connect it to any MCP client and the assistant can pull tracked creator data mid-conversation instead of guessing.
